Kofi Boye-Doe, MCJ
I am Kofi Annor Boye-Doe. I was born on the 11th of March 1966 in Cape-Coast in Ghana to a couple named Kofi and Adelaide Boye-Doe.
I started my primary school education in Cape-Coast, which is in the Central region of Ghana. I also had my secondary education in the same town and graduated from UniversityPracticeSecondary School in 1983. I went to pursue a career in Accounting at Takoradi Polytechnic and graduated in 1986. I then moved to the capital city of Ghana in search of a better job and life but rather met the love of my life. I got married in 1993 and now have three boys. My eldest sons are twins and they were born on the 18th of August, 1996 and my youngest son was born on the 11th day of November, 1999.
In 2003, I legally migrated to the United States of America on the 13th of June 2003. My purpose in life is making an impact in everything I do. When I decided to major in criminal justice and sociology at Washburn University, little did I know that I would have the opportunity to undertake a research at Ghana Police Service. My initial contact with the Ghana Police Service was the 5th of January 2007.
In March, 2007, I was able to help the Criminal Justice Department to invite Mr. George Asiamah to WashburnUniversity to deliver a lecture on Policing in Ghana. I am fortunate to have had an opportunity to take a course at TopekaPoliceCitizensAcademy, which heightened my desire to pursue law enforcement as a career goal. In addition, I also have some experience in Research. I was co- presenter at Proseminar, spring, 2007 (Researching into Crime Control in Ghana), Aperion 2007 (Goth and Satanic Worship effect on Juvenile Delinquencies) at WashburnUniversity. I have also presented a Paper on Differences between Africans and African Americans at Grinnell College (Fall 2007) University of Central Missouri (Fall2007) and co presenter for ACJS conference in Ohio, Spring 2008 with Dr. Gordon and Angie Crews on our “Research in community Policing in Ghana”.
In December 2007, I completed two Bachelor Degree Programs at Washburn University (B.S. (Hons) in Criminal Justice & B. A. (Hons) in Sociology). I was accepted into the graduate program in spring 2008. While in graduate school, I worked as a Graduate Assistant for Dr. Gordon and Angie Crews at the Criminal Justice Department. On the 15th October, 2008, I became a US citizen.
In spring 2010, I graduated with a Masters’ degree in criminal justice- law enforcement and corrections from Washburn University. I wrote my graduate thesis “Exploratory study of officer perception regarding college education and performance at Topeka police department”. Before migrating to America, I had twelve years of experience as a Senior Postmaster in Accra, Ghana (my home country) and also have worked with adults with mental disabilities for ten years in Lawrence, USA. I am currently the Director of Education at PCI Lawrence Campus/ Instructor for GS 100 and I also teach a “Stinking Thinking” class at the Douglas county jail.
To conclude, I believe that with all the experiences that I have accumulated in life, I am now ready to impart some of the knowledge that I have acquired over the years to the next generation. Sincerely,
Kofi Annor Boye-Doe
